This chapter describes some of the creatures found in the lands of Lorwyn and Shadowmoor.
Adapting Other Creatures
The following creatures are common in Lorwyn or Shadowmoor and can be represented with stat blocks from the Monster Manual.
Faeries
Faeries are fickle pranksters in Lorwyn and Shadowmoor. They live for petty intrigues and use illusion magic to conduct their capers. Faeries have an insectile appearance, though in Lorwyn they are more elf-like. To use a Lorwyn faerie in your game as a nonplayer character, use the Pixie or Sprite stat block. See 1 for information about creating a faerie player character.
Scarecrows
Found only in Shadowmoor, scarecrows are terrifying constructs made from the bodies of dead treefolk and reanimated with kithkin magic. Though mindless, the scarecrows of Shadowmoor exhibit malignance; even a scarecrow's creators aren't safe from their invention's bloody rampages. The magic of Shadowmoor infuses a scarecrow with malevolence. Whether encountered in Shadowmoor or on the borders of Lorwyn, scarecrows are portents of dread and doom.
No two scarecrows look alike, but many share a suite of common abilities. To represent a Shadowmoor scarecrow in your game, use the Scarecrow stat block.
Treefolk
Found in Lorwyn and Shadowmoor, treefolk are sentient, deciduous trees with vaguely bipedal trunks and exaggerated facial features. They begin life as ordinary trees, then gain sentience through an event called the Rising. It is said that treefolk are among the eldest creatures native to the realm of Lorwyn-Shadowmoor.
Lorwyn Treefolk
In Lorwyn, some treefolk use their wisdom as a tool to support shorter-lived creatures. Others wield their intellect like a scepter and seek to rule over Lorwyn's younger denizens.
Shadowmoor Treefolk
In Shadowmoor, treefolk are vengeful protectors of nature against the incursions of denizens of other realms. They remain isolated and lonely and are more prone to violence than their Lorwyn counterparts.
Treefolk Stat Blocks
Any type of treefolk can be represented with the Treant stat block. Roll on or choose a result from the Treefolk Varieties table to inspire what kind of tree a treefolk might be and what its personality might be like.
